- Aluminium tubular lugs are available for cable sizes ranging from 16 sq mm to 630 sq mm. Long barrel variants are used for 35 sq mm and above to improve pull-out strength. XLPE lugs are designed specifically for XLPE-insulated aluminium cables and are available from 16 sq mm to 400 sq mm.
- What is the difference between usual and long barrel aluminium tubular lugs?
- Usual (standard) barrel tubular lugs have a shorter crimp barrel suitable for general LT cable terminations. Long barrel lugs have an extended barrel that provides a larger contact area and improved mechanical pull-out strength — recommended for HT cables, vibration-prone installations, and cables above 95 sq mm.
- How are aluminium lugs crimped?
- Aluminium lugs are crimped using hydraulic compression tools with the correct die set for the lug and cable size. Indent crimping (dimple crimp) or circumferential crimping methods are used depending on the lug design. Proper crimping ensures gas-tight contact and prevents oxidation at the joint.
